My name is Dia. I live in Leucadia, CA. Sharing random thoughts on food, fashion, design, music, news, complete nonsense or whatever I happen to feel like posting at the time, anything and everything.
Adornment this holiday season and of course I’m kind of schitzo. Some days call for some flashy bling…my YSL ring does just that, gold, gilded, holiday perfect.
Do the feature finger bit too like my friends in Vancouver to hit it out of the park.
And when things get a bit much calm down with a favorite vintage opal gold ring,
Looking at pics from the recent Burberry show and this is a stand out favorite. Skinny pencil skirts, bow waist and owls, fall…I can’t wait. Makes me want to pull out my Lanvin velvet pencil skirt with the bow waist, give it a twirl out for dinner soon. And owls? I’m on the search, Kate Bosworth’s grey sweater is perfect, especially loving the narrow shoulders.
Ya know I’m a huge Marni fan so this collab with H&M is such a treat. Consuelo Castiglioni and her design team, so clever and she is definitely my kind of thinking designer. My favorite coats and jackets that hang in my closet are no doubt Marni pieces, words can’t describe how well cut and designed these staples are. The cut and tailoring’s just so thoughtful and patient, so creative and some serious mad skills to sew pieces up the way they do, like no other and it seems they won’t disappoint with this collection, can’t wait.
I’m swooning over the bracelets and necklaces, both sequin collars, the signature prints and whimsical colors. Marni at budget prices, save the date March 8, 2012! Sweet!
My family have been in the handwoven silk business in Vientiane, Laos for as long as I can remember so gifts of textiles and talk of design have always been a part of my life. Mai Handwoven is the studio and it has been such a labor of love for me to learn the craft and business to share it with everyone. Only using natural dyes and each piece is individually handwoven by highly skilled weavers, it’s really an art, amazing time-honed craftsmanship and skill. Life is brilliant like this, ya think about it, you write about it and what do ya know? last minute travel plans booked and I’m going to Laos very soon, tropical weather for 2 weeks, yes please.
The Saravan scarf is one of my favorites, here are some pics of my friend,Akikorocking it.
Since we’ve been renovating for some time now, in the meantime sharing a tiny 480sq ft one bedroom studio in the backyard, it’s not surprising I forget about stuff. Especially since everything’s crammed in boxes and bags, in storage containers and closets, in corners and drawers and looky what I found again, an old arrow pin in a pocket inside a clutch bag I hadn’t seen or used in awhile. My head’s in a cloud of sawdust and some things are completely off my radar and so yes please, I’m loving this Karen Walker brooch. Rediscovered and in rotation again, it’s been so long, like newfound treasure.
I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada and will always remember the large department store that’s in an old historic downtown building that everyone shops at, The Hudson’s Bay Company right down the street from the legislative building. Shopping at the Bay reminds me of my friend Ann, she would always have us in fits of laughter, there was just no ordinary passing through without a funny face or comment about some fashion accessory or item of clothing, lady knew how to blow things out of proportion, so ridiculously funny. The Bay has everything your regular department store would have, floors and floors of just stuff. Its trademark logo colors and design of broad stripesĀ (green, red, yellow and navy blue on a cream background) I see often when I flip through fashion and designer mags, nothing new, it’s the Bay, it’s Canadian.
Isabel Marant Yuli silk scarf worn by actress Diane Krueger, retails for over $500?!
here’s another snap of someone in what must be a vintage Bay cardigan.
and here’s the original, the Bay multi-stripe point wool blanket.
We don’t get much in the way of seasons around here but they still do apply for us in our heads. Noted there is a slight dip in temperature, still for me though itĀ gets blurred with the dry heat from warm Santa Ana winds that blow through in October/November. Fall on the brain nonetheless and we’ve been pulling out our hats, scarves and cozy sweaters for fall/winter. Bring it, bring it!
Olive felt hat from Loehmanns, wrapped an old Chloe scarf around it, ya like?
and some leopard of course, favorite Lanvin leopard bow flats.
May’s closet runneth over. Her Birkin’s pretty sweet!
Earlier this year French singer-actress Jane Birkin, who inspired the highly coveted Hermes designed namesake bag auctioned off her very own Birkin on ebay to support the Red Cross’s efforts in Japan. It sold for a whopping $162,840.00, very nice. Great for the charity, a great bag to carry, a great story/collectible piece for the buyer too. Love how Ms. Birkin makes it truly her own, stickers that are meaningful to her and worry beads, precious? conservative? nah, just fun! and like she says, it doesn’t look like anyone else’s.
