vans

A photo my other half took months ago of Steve Van Doren that’s in SBC mag. Like who doesn’t have a pair or two or three or a closet full of Vans? Thanks for the kicks Mr. Van Doren! especially loving the mens leather alomar, too bad their smallest mens size is still a half size too big for me.┬á čśŽ

transition

Time flies and with no drastic change in temperature it goes without much notice down here. We’re still at a comfortable 90┬░ in October and I’m daydreaming midst the heatwaves staring at pics of an amazing home in the mountains. Hmmm..to snap out of the heat and celebrate seasons when there are none with a trip to the┬ámontagnes maybe? retire the sandals and summer gear and let’s go somewhere cool? Season etiquette, do I have to retire my favorite Celine wedges this fall/winter? Is wearing espadrilles this time of year like not wearing white past Labor day? Or do I get a pass cause I live in San Diego where you really can do summer all year round. Thoughts?

So back to this house, Khyber Ridge that I’ve been admiring in beautiful Whistler, BC, a┬á jaw-dropping view and what do ya know? The owner of the dreamy residence was once roommates with my other half way back when they were kids living the dream, snowboarding for a living in gorgeous Whistler, of course back then not living in this house. Check it, there’s a lot to like.

ridiculist

Been back for 2 weeks now, my head committed and completely back to wrapping up this house reno. 3 more mahogany doors to install, the trim as well as around the windows, finish the bathtub, pick and order bathroom wall sconces, hang one last mirror, decide on art and photos, ceiling fans for the bedrooms, put up the last bit of the soffit, put floorboards down in the last bedroom, blah, blah, blah…does it ever end?

Motivated I am and I came across these Maison Martin Margiela runners on the Barney’s site last night, $525, you gotta be kidding me? After a two year house reno I have a bunch of runners that look just like this, one of a kind and they’re all yours for half the price, women’s size 7.5, men’s size 8 and 9. Seriously!?

Nearing the finish line and decor ideas appear left and right here. Dude sent me this link for bedspreads, looks like the recycling bin, homeless chic, anyone?

fake problems

Mad men or tropical weather? Funny that that’s the conundrum I’m dealt with this week and yes, I’ve been heard harping once or twice about the fact that I won’t be home to watch the season premiere this Sunday, two weeks overseas and who’d ever think a trip abroad to tropical weather and great food would have any drawbacks. Anyways, the recording’s been set for Sunday and given that we’ve been kept waiting for so long already, what’s another 2 weeks really? You can bet though that I’ll be sipping on an Old-Fashioned at a local bar or restaurant in Vientiane just like Catherine Deneuve did in sweaty Saigon in Indochine, channel the ladies of Mad Men and wear my velvet printed heels that feel so dressed up and polished and wonder what went down.

Just getting there is the goal now, 17 hours on a direct flight and then a 1 hour flight to my destination, wowzers it’s gonna be a long one! bon voyage! hopefully some dispatches from the other side of the world too.

spring!

Enjoy the weather lately? It was so windy here and stormy too over the weekend. Good thing I was at home with a fire going just watching out through the large picture windows and it was like mother nature was bitch slapping the house, even if only for an hour that one episode when it rained cats and dogs on Saturday was pretty epic. And rushing out in our rubber boots to clear the debris from all the drains..um, not so much. Oh the joys of living on a hill! and who knew our sloping driveway easily doubles as a water slide, of course it’s a rushing stream of water headed straight to our garage door, not the most ideal scenario and you can imagine how vital working drains are around here. Anyways, cheers to spring! Bring it, bring it!

I want this vintage floral Attic and Barn Kuredo dress at Madewell

and these peeptoe Ferro sandals at Maryam Nassir Zadeh. Lovely, no?

rodent boots

Birds chirp here 24/7, last night especially loud and chit chatty, very much like humans and still at it this morning too while I filled two garbage cans full of weeds. It’s like my morning ritual, after the morning’s packing and shipping is done it’s just me and weeds, slowly and surely 2 garbage cans full a day at least 5 days a week and they should disappear, containment is more like it. And this is just dealing with what’s left after Ritchie and his bobcat took care of most of the yard the other week, leaving me here with just the perimeter, nooks and crannies but of course it feels like a field-full still. Lesson learned, never let the weeds get out of control, the goal is not a forest, evict them immediately.

Indoors for something to munch on, trail chews from my friend’s family’s supermarket, Frazier Farms in Vista are so good. Definitely in the running for best cookie ever; dried coconut, apricot, papaya, cherries, cranberries, almonds, walnuts and pepitas, so good.

A quick look too at Isabel Marant’s F/W 2012 offerings and these 3 dresses, warning ya, don’t look at the pricetag and just imagine yes, please.

The print above is lovely and the dresses below, a nod western.

I also got a package in the mail and dude asks, “what is it?” Box unopened and my immediate reply was, “a box of awesome.” Yah, ya know it! Moving into my new closet has also meant a thorough edit and trades like this one on ebay make it all so sweet. “Trade ya my old stuff for new stuff” and spring cleaning’s far from a chore this season.

kick ass Pierre Hardy leather wedge booties, dead marmot?

or not? As it is a marmot I can fathom it was roadkill…and now on my feet. Never one to think of ever purchasing fur and this feels cruel, conflicted? yes.

treasure

Since we’ve been renovating for some time now, in the meantime sharing a tiny 480sq ft one bedroom studio in the backyard, it’s not surprising I forget about stuff. Especially since everything’s crammed in boxes and bags, in storage containers and closets, in corners and drawers and looky what I found again, an old arrow pin in a pocket inside a clutch bag I hadn’t seen or used in awhile. My head’s in a cloud of sawdust and some things are completely off my radar and so yes please, I’m loving this Karen Walker brooch. Rediscovered and in rotation again, it’s been so long, like newfound treasure.

leopard please

My dear friend’s rubbing off on me, my very first leopard something, something. These are the sweetest leopard flats, the color, the patent leather embellishment/trim, signature Pierre Hardy and for cheap too! my recent score on ebay.

fall

We don’t get much in the way of seasons around here but they still do apply for us in our heads. Noted there is a slight dip in temperature, still for me though it┬á gets blurred with the dry heat from warm Santa Ana winds that blow through in October/November. Fall on the brain nonetheless and we’ve been pulling out our hats, scarves and cozy sweaters for fall/winter. Bring it, bring it!

Olive felt hat from Loehmanns, wrapped an old Chloe scarf around it, ya like?

and some leopard of course, favorite Lanvin leopard bow flats.

stoop life

NYC nights sitting out on the front stoop, be it waiting for a seat at a restaurant or just chit chatting with friends. Our favorite stoop this summer was right across the street from our hotel, the Mondrian Soho, late nights loitering on the front steps of the Derek Lam store as we figured out our plans for the evening, spacious stairs and well lit, the black coat on the mannequin was pretty sweet too.

And thanks Roslyn for taking pretty pictures!
